By Hollywood standards, an independent film's budget is small, but it is no small task to assemble the many elements required to form a solid financial foundation for a quality film. There is rarely just one way, just one investor, just one period of fundraising. It is a constant, long-term, piecemeal endeavor. But at the end of the day, if there is no money, there is no film.
The support for MILLIES reaches far and wide, with every willing person being able to contribute in some way or another, whether it is buying a t-shirt, purchasing our other films, attending MILLIES events, bidding on auction items, fronting us goods and services, or becoming a full-fledged investor in the film. Gift cards for restaurants, markets, convenience/hardware/office supply stores are also gratefully accepted. It is as small or as large a contribution as you wish to have.

For Serious and Savvy Investors, A Massachusetts law has created a too-good-to-be-true-but-it-is tax break for accredited investors to obtain substantial financial benefits by investing in Massachusetts-made films. Initially, this law was created to draw more big-budget Hollywood films to the Bay State, which it has already succeeded in doing. But the law was amended to lower the minimum requirements so that smaller film and video productions within the Commonwealth could also reap its considerable tax rewards. This places MILLIES’ investors in an ideal situation to take advantage of this phenomenal legislation while backing a worthwhile film project.
Banks, Corporations, and Individuals who are accredited investors are ideal backers of independent film. MILLIES will be filming 100% Massachusetts locations and majority Massachusetts crew, ensuring it complies with every requirement of the tax legislation to reap the most rewards allowable. Read the full text of the Film Tax Law here and contact your tax planner to elaborate on the benefits.
Categorized as a “low-budget, independent film,” MILLIES has no financial or promotional assistance from major Hollywood studios. Our extremely-conservative-by-film-standards budget will likely come from private investment and businesses outside the motion picture industry. Fresh and creative stories do not get told unless someone steps up to help fund their telling. For this project to be successful, it is critical for us to obtain proper financing up front, enabling us to ensure quality equipment, crew, promotion, and talent to allow MILLIES to have the impact it should.
The filmmakers are committed to protecting investor funding and using it efficiently and wisely. We will take advantage of every tax law and break available to us in order to provide investors with the highest possible return on their investments. With the killer combination of a unique storyline, authentic and stunning visual locations, and countless ties to the historic Bread and Roses Strike, MILLIES is poised to be an independent film with excellent financial and critical potential.
Plenty of people set out to make independent films. Far fewer of them set out to make quality films with sound business structures. So if you've had an inkling about investing in a smart film smartly made, MILLIES may be the one for you. MILLIES was supported in part by grants from the Lawrence Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. We are extremely grateful for this stamp of approval and we stretched these modest grants to cover expenses on the road to making MILLIES a reality.
